Checklist thesis paper
What you should check before submitting your thesis:
- Thesis completed – congratulations! However, be careful, a formal review of the work is recommended before submission. Below, we have compiled a hit list of the most popular, recurring, and careless mistakes.
- The submission date. Initially, it is still unclear on which day it will be submitted or handed in. Therefore, set up a placeholder for the date. Then verify that the date indicated on the cover sheet matches the actual date of submission or that it is even entered.
- Eliminate double spaces. Avoid double spaces in the document. These are easy to overlook and present an unnecessary annoyance for the reader. Using the search function (Ctrl F), two consecutive spaces in the text can be located.
- The page numbers. You should double-check the page numbers at the end. Due to page and formatting breaks, the count may quickly differ.
- The Table of Contents. Also, das Inhaltsverzeichnis der fertigen Abschlussarbeit noch einmal genau mit dem Dokument abgleichen. Ensure that the chapter headings match and the page numbers listed in the table of contents are correct.
- Verify the images. Similarly, review all illustrations that appear in the body text. Oftmals ändert sich während des Arbeitsprozesses die Reihenfolge oder eine Abbildung wird gelöscht – dann könnte es passieren, dass z. Bsp. Abb. 3 unsinnigerweise auf Abb. 6 folgt. If necessary, also keep an eye on the image indexes.
- Check references in the body text. When referencing other locations in the work, you should continue to be cautious. Verify that the illustration numbers and page numbers are up to date.
- Both-Sided Printing and Customized Document Layout. The following rule applies to double-sided printing. Front pages are right-hand pages, with centered or right-aligned odd numbers. Back sides are left-lying pages, with centered or left-aligned straight numbers. Chapter beginnings are right-hand pages, or front pages, in accordance with the rules, and are accordingly paginated with an odd page number.
- We print from PDF files… and not from Word, PowerPoint, Excel, CorelDraw, InDesign, LaTeX, Affinity, or other application files. The only implementable file formats for us external service providers are print-ready PDF or, better, PDF/X files. After converting your PDF file from your application program, repeatedly check it for correct processing and implementation of all content. For more information on this and other digital printing topics, see our digital printing guide.
- Formal requirements must be observed. Even if your document is set up according to the requirements of the examination office from the beginning, it should still be checked at the end. Despite many changes, deviations often creep in unnoticed. Ensure that the cover page, margins, font, and font size, as well as any additional documents such as the declaration of independence, are in line with the formal requirements.
- Can the PDF file be opened on other Windows computers? Incorrect links can cause PDF documents to open only on the user’s own computer. There may also be problems with compatibility between Mac and Windows.
- The final sample print. Despite the utmost care, errors are only apparent when the final sample is reviewed at the printing house. Then, having your own laptop helps with the possibility of correcting on the spot. printy is also trying to solve minor text and layout problems with its own PDF special programs. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always work out, and additional services also mean additional costs.
- Consult the Examinations Office for opening hours. A thesis could also be frantically thrown into a mailbox late at night in the hope of meeting a deadline. You should not do this. Find out when the relevant collection point is open. Office representatives with different hours may also be responsible – it is therefore helpful to contact the homepage of the respective examination office or information point in a timely manner before submission.
- printy wishes you much success!
